Sometimes, when we’re out walking the dog, we have a water bottle but no dish, and sometimes we have a dish, but no water! Our veterinarian recommends:

Letting your dog drink from a puddle is not ideal. Water in puddles is not always clean and could cause temporary digestive issues. In the worst case, if the water was contaminated by rats , your dog could contract leptospirosis by drinking this water.

It’s always better to know the source of the water your dog is drinking.
